BRING YOUR TEAM to the YOUNG WORKER LEADERSHIP ACADEMY, JANUARY 28-30, 2016
The University of California at Berkeley and Los Angeles, along with the Commission on Health and Safety and Workers' Compensation, are once again sponsoring a 3- day all-expense-paid Young Worker Leadership Academy scheduled for January 28-30 at UC Berkeley. This is a unique opportunity for youth to become leaders and advocates for teen labor rights, and health and safety.
The Academy brings together six teams of high school-aged youth (four youth per team, plus one Adult Sponsor) from diverse communities throughout the state of California. Participants learn about how and why youth are injured at work, their rights on the job, and how youth can have an impact on public policy, at both the local and state level. Each team will plan a local activity to promote teen worker safety during May 2016, which is Safe Jobs for Youth Month in California.
For Adult Sponsors: Work with a group of four teens (plus one alternate) to apply as a team. The application includes the Adult Recommendation and Commitment Form, and a short application for each individual youth. Submit the application by November 2, 2015. Each team's Adult Sponsor will attend the full Academy and provide support to the team in planning and conducting their local activity.
